We have all heard that "people food" and table scraps are not good for our pets. It's true that can cause obesity, stomach upsets or cause pets to become finnicky eaters. However, despite all the warnings, most pets owners still sneak a tidbit or two under the table at every meal. If pet owners still choose to feed "people food" to their dogs and cats, this list will allow them to make better choices for their pets.

SUITABLE "PEOPLE FOOD" FOR PETS
 
Plain, unseasoned cooked lean meat (chicken or beef is best)
Hard-boiled egg
Scrambled egg cooked without margarine/butter
Carrot
Any veggies not listed under "bad foods"

BAD (TOXIC) FOODS FOR PETS!!!
 
-Alcoholic beverages - all of them
-Almonds
-Apple seeds (contain cyanide, which can cause seizures)
-Apricot pits (contain cyanide, which can cause seizures)
-Avacado
-Broccoli (contains isothiocyanate, a gastrointestinal irritant)
Cherry pits (contain cyanide, which can cause seizures)
Chocolate (contains theobromine, which affects the nervous system & cardiovascular system)
Coffee (contains caffein, toxic to dogs)
Diabetic (sugarless) candies (contains xylitol which can cause liver damage)
Fatty foods
Grapes (can cause acute renal [kidney] failure)
Macadamia Nuts
Mouldy foods
Mushrooms (can cause severe liver disease and neurologic disorders)
Onion (contain a compound that causes hemolytic anemia)
Peach pits (contain cyanide, which can cause seizures)
Plum pits (contain cyanide, which can cause seizures)
Potato peels & leaves
Raisins (can cause acute renal [kidney] failure)
Rhubarb (leaves)
Salmon- RAW only (may contain a rickettsial organism, Neorickettsia helminthoeca)
Salty foods (in large ammounts can cause electrolyte imbalance)
Spoiled foods
Sugarless (diabetic) candies (contains xylitol which can liver damage)
Tomato (leaves & stems off plant)
Xylitol (artificial sweetener) (can cause liver damage)
Yeast dough (can expand and produce gas in the digestive tract causing discomfort and possible rupture of intestines)
